The 1944 Hurricane Devastation of Fairhaven Center / Wilbur Point Add Video

Fairhaven Center was never the same again after The Hurricane of 1944 which occurred overnight on September 14. This recently discovered film was restored by the M.L.Baron Historic Archives. This never before seen film from almost 70 years ago reveals the impact of hurricane force winds that destroyed almost every large tree that shaded the town's center for decades. The Town Hall large ornate weather vane toppled onto the front lawn. The Unitarian Church and Millicent Library lost countless trees . The damage to the Congregational Church next to Town Hall was severe. Wilbur Point had massive destruction .The vintage film has some rare color clips . (the 2 children on a fallen tree are The Kelly kids who'd soon be running Kelly's Shipyard decades later) In the 1945 annual town report, the tree warden indicated that there was more tree destruction from the '44 Hurricane than The Hurricane of 1938.
