This GMC Mountain Bike lost June 13 in the backwoods of the West Island State Reservation was mysteriously located on Causeway Rd West Island, MA, at the mailboxes-8 months later- intact! The bike belongs to the West island Weather Station. Hats off to GMC bikes and Topeak gear for the ultimate durability test! The bike was exposed to dozens of snow storms, rain, and salt air. All gear and bike are in remarkable condition. All aluminum = NO RUST. I only replaced tubes and restored with WD-40. Rode it same day! All gears and brakes OK. For a full story of the bike and more pics -visit

The Palmer's Island Light is all that remains on the tiny island inside the hurricane barrier. The keeper's home and out buildings were swept away in the 1938 Hurricane along with Mabel Small, Captain Small's wife. Captain Small who was keeper of the light for over 16 years at the time kept the light buring throughout the night of the hurricane. He was cited for acts of heroism by the National Lighthouse Service. A stone memorial is at the Fairhaven side of the barrier. It was dedicated in 1988 on the 50th Anniversary. www.westislandweather.com

A boat ride in Fairhaven-New Bedford Harbor, September 1990. Conditions were perfect for taping the Fairhaven dock scenes as the sun was going down and the fall full moon was rising. Some of these vessels are no longer part of the Fairhaven waterfront including the WNBH radio tower that soon would fall a year later with Hurricane Bob. The camera was a Sony 327 CCD-a new chip camera-state of the art at the time. Skippered by Captain Peter Jarosik-KA1WBE and taped by M.L.Baron-KA1WBH. www.westislandweather.com Part 3 of 3

This snowy path out back on the West Island State Reservation brings solitude. This is a classic signature of a departed old fashioned n'or easter. December 2008 marks the 20th Anniversary of SAVE WEST ISLAND'S success in keeping this space open to the public. The Winter Solstice arrived Sunday, December 21st at 7:04AM officially marking the beginning of what appears to be a stormy season ahead.
