EVERY 90 SECONDS A CHRISTMAS TREE WILL BE CUT Fairhaven - Since 2001, The Douglass Family Annual Christmas Tree Sale down the end of Sconticut Neck Road, Fairhaven, MA will get underway December 9 and 10th. Buyers can choose and cut the tree of their choice., or it can be cut for you. "The tree farm was started to restore the land to an agricultural use and to provide a retirement job. There was a grand but undefined plan to use some of the proceeds for charitable causes but we were thinking of scholarships or food banks. When we became aware of ALS TDI and their mission and how it could impact our family, it was a no-brainer." Dick Douglass *ML's Note: A drought last year halted sales. A first time look from the Douglass Tree Farm from the air shows the wide expanse of healthy trees available this season. The King Tide was merciful this Tuesday morning at the high tide cycle at 8AM, November 15, 2016. The yards, under water, are part of the properties that abutt Almond St - on the west shoreline of West Island. Full Moon tides are at their highest this time in the Fall and around the first week of Spring when the sun and moon exert a double gravitational pull, creating higher tides than usual. Add a storm system with a southerly wind direction, and tidal surges can get much worse along Southern Mass and Buzzards Bay. The hurricane barrier has been busy with scheduled closings and very likely will continue over the next few cycles.

In the first 3 years of Fairhaven's new public access channel, scores of programming was produced by local residents. From history to sports and entertainment, Cable 2 had it all. It also received multiple awards through the year of it's existence. VINTAGE FAIRHAVEN ARCHIVE TAPES DISCOVERED AFTER 32 YEARS The VHS tapes were lodged in between some old books in storage. Some were found to be well preserved after being sealed for over 3 decades. (The average playable life span of a VHS tape is about 25 years) After some adjustments and fine tuning ,we got them to play and are being restored to digital! If you lived in town in the 1980's, you will very likely see yourself or someone you knew in this footage. From FHS Sports, Music Entertainment, History, local schools in Fairhaven-Acushnet, town notables that are no longer with us, and never seen before bloopers - at the end of the show. This was a look back anniversary special for local Public Access Cable 2, the first 3 years, 1982-1985. There were several hours of footage recovered in satisfactory condition. *ML's Note: As program director - I made duplicate copies of shows back then and stored them separately from the Cable Station just in case. I forgot about them a long time ago. MLBaron Historic Archives

A mysterious halo (at 0 :28 sec.) appeared in a drifting early morning fog bank that passed across Buzzards Bay and West Island, Monday, August 28, 2017 at 630AM. The ghost rainbow appeared several times and eventually disappeared as the bank moved away. This clip was originally rejected, but after this discovery, I decided to post this little rainbow that appeared in a complete circle., which they all do. The water droplets in the fog with the sun angle at the right place and time with the camera made this fogbow visible only at this spot. The angle of the sun has to be between 30 and 40 degrees from the anti-solar point. The fogbows are also called white rainbows, cloudbows, or ghost rainbows.

Deadly wind chills and frozen sea spray advisories on March 5, 2017 at this spot on the Causeway have long been forgotten just 4 months later. Amazing seasonal changes in New England are legendary. While our "snowbirds" enjoyed the warm Florida sun, the temperature on March 5, 2017 was as low as 11.8 degrees with a wind chill of 8 below zero. Gale warnings were in place as we prepared for a Nor'Easter. Today, July 16, 2017, Hazy, Hot, and Humid conditions at 77.2F and a comfortable seabreeze embraced beach goers as they swam in the 73 degree water, at the same spot just 16 weeks later!
