An 85 ft motor yacht struck some rocks off Woods Hole, Falmouth, MA this afternoon and immediately began taking on water. It was deliberately beached to avoid sinking. A distress call was made to the U.S.Coast Guard and they arrived on the scene quickly. TowBoat US out of Falmouth and New Bedford assisted the stricken vessel and stabilized it enough to tow it into Fairhaven Shipyard. A spokesman for TowBoat US stated: "We had some hairy moments in keeping her afloat while making a slow journey to a safe berth". The stricken vessel "Cocktail" based out of Miami, was towed approximately 10 miles and escorted by 2 Coast Guard boats to the Fairhaven Shipyard for damage assessment and repairs. There were no reported injuries. The seas were calm with clear visibility at the time of the incident. High tide for Little Harbor, Woods Hole was at 1:37PM.
