NB Voc Tech Students Built Picnic Tables for a Community Project Add Video

Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School students constructed and built almost 2 dozen picnic tables for a tri-town area. It was a student produced, community service project. Fairhaven Juniors Tara Cox and Lexi Lees thought of the idea for this project for the annual SKILLS USA, a national vocational school competition. A grant from Lowe's Home Improvements provided the lumber, materials and tools. Big Wheels Towing tranported the tables free of charge to New Bedford, Dartmouth and at Long Island - Hoppy's Landing in Fairhaven. "Visitors to Hoppy's Landing will now be able to enjoy spectacular views of Buzzards Bay from these tables." said Tim Cox, Fairhaven Harbormaster. Vegetation and landscaping indigenous to Long Island will also be planted under the supervision of vegetation expert Louise Barteaux of West Island. NB Voc-Tech received a 3rd Place-Bronze Award on the state level for this project. (*ML's Note: : Last year, they came in first.)
