Macrays Clam Shack at Westport MA - FRIED CLAMS TO DIE FOR Add Video

Macray's Seafood operated in Westport, Massachusetts from 1957 to 1992. "My parents would bring us there on Sundays from Mattapoisett, passing a ton of other clam joints., but the trip was worth it. I remember the cars lined up on both sides of Route 6" Gary Bowman "A required ritual, after being at Lincoln Park all afternoon." Robert Cournoyer Vintage circa 1980 photo discovered of the famous Clam shack (Robert Cournoyer pic), the old clam shack (Tom Quinn pic) remains badly deteriorated at the same spot. I inserted a quick interview I did with Tom at the 1991 Fairhaven Homecoming Fair. From The Macray's II web site: "The name is a portmanteau of the names of the original owners?Tom "Mac" McGreevy and Ray Therien. One of the employees was a kid named Bob Lafleur, who started out at age thirteen picking up trash in the parking lot and eventually moved up to cook. By the time the shack closed in 1992 Lafleur was ready to run a place of his own, and when a storefront came available at 115 Stafford Road in Tiverton, that's what he did. But he figured why mess with success? He retained the name and all the recipes he'd learned from his former gig. Macray's Seafood II is the relaunch of a restaurant that operated in Westport, Massachusetts." This info compiled from : http://www.quahog.org/cuisine/index.php?id=249
