The following resolution was presented to Anthony Lessa by Councillor DeMedeiros
CITY OF NEW BEDFORD IN CITY COUNCIL October10,2002 RESOLUTION HONORING ANTHONY LESSA FOR HIS HEROIC,LIFE-SAVING EFFORTS WHEREAS,On August 31st,while attending Church services with his family at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish,Anthony Lessa became aware of an elderly woman experiencing pain and difficulty breathing; and WHEREAS, Anthony,who is a 14 year old resident of New Bedford,quickly went to the assistance of the woman and directed another parishioner to dial 9-1-1; and WHEREAS, Anthony,who is a Lance Corporal of the South Coast Young Marines,took control of the situation,and,with his knowledge of First Aid and C.P.R.,was able to assist and comfort the woman until the paramedics responded to the scene;and WHEREAS,Anthony?s quick actions were instrumental in saving the woman?s life,until more advanced medical services could take over; and WHEREAS, For these actions,Lance Corporal Anthony Lessa was awarded the Life Saving Ribbon Award?2nd Degree by the National Director of the Young Marines; and WHEREAS, In addition to the Life Saving Ribbon Award, Anthony Lessa has been awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation, an Attendance Award, C.P.R. Award, Field Qualification Award , Battalion Encampments with Bronze Star and the Basic Awards;and WHEREAS,Its fitting that the New Bedford City Council honors ANTHONY LESSA for his fine example of how much good young people can do: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED ,that the New Bedford City Council here by honors ANTHONY LESSA for his heroic ,life-saving efforts ,commends him for acting quickly and unselfishly to aid a stranger ,thanks him for his thoughtfulness and compassion for others,and extends best wishes for success in all he does! Way to go Anthony-proud to have you as a member of WIWS! |
