The Public Access Years

Here are some vintage pictures of Fairhaven/Acushnet Public Access in the mid to late 1980's. The studio started operations in September 1982 and produced local origination programs and public access shows by trained volunteers in the community. I became a volunteer in 1982,and soon was hired as a part time playback operator. In 1984 I became Program Director. This was a multi, award winning public access channel on the State and National levels. Many students and interns from local schools, colleges and international exchange students were trained here. Cable 2 was the pioneer in producing the first black programming and shows on aids which at the time was a volatile issue. Fairhaven High School sports coverage was our specialty. 3 major award winning documentaries were produced here: A Wind To Shake The World The Story of The 1938 Hurricane, Atlas Tack, and other great shows which included In Tune, Sports Extra, Cable 2 News, Custodio Chronicle, On The Spot, Rational Individualist, Musician's Showcase, Straight Talk, Right To The Point, Channing Hayward and Friends, The Candidates Speak and more. I was indeed proud to have had the privilege to have run Cable 2 from 1984 to 1998. Many fond memories. I will add to this album as time permits. Feel free to add captions and I'll insert your memories. Here's a clip you might also Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB1IxXGFlSE&t=35s
